Honduras se prepara para lanzar Iniciativa de Lavado de Manos


May 18.2009. PROMAS coordinator visited the Republic of Honduras from 13 to 15 May with the aim of establishing contact with various senior officials of the health sector water and sanitation, education, and cooperating to promote the launch of the Handwashing Initiative in that country.

The visit was very successful because, as a result of it, we assembled a high-level commission, consisting of: Dr. Ruben Villeda, Deputy Minister of Health, Mr. Porfirio Diaz, the MOH and the designated focal point to drive the initiative , Cesar Martinez of SANAA and FOCARD deputy coordinator, Rafael Vera, Coordinator for Central America Water and Sanitation Program (WSP), World Bank; Ana Treasure Renato Chaves PAHO and UNICEF. This committee is responsible for preparing a work plan to implement the handwashing initiative in country, initially as a preventive measure against the virus gripeA/H1N1, then revisit the issue in all its breadth. The Commission will meet in the coming days, with a view to start the first activity dataO in the short term. All donor agencies have shown their willingness to provide technical and financial support, so as to strengthen the response capacity of the Ministry of Health, which is the governing body. Is also expected that the commission later representing the Ministry of Education.
