Alianza para celebrar el Dia Mundial de Lavado de Manos

Forum Central American and Dominican Republic Water and Sanitation (FOCARD-APS), through PROMAS initiative and in collaboration with cooperating agencies such as UNICEF, WHO, WSP / World Bank, Swiss Cooperation Agency and the Millennium Water Alliance, have made an alliance to promote in each of the countries of Central America and the Dominican Republic World Day Handwashing, which has three main purposes: 1) Encourage and support local and global culture of handwashing with soap, 2) make public the status of hand washing in each country, 3) Raise awareness about the benefits of handwashing with soap.

The Day Handwashing, an initiative of the Global Partnership between Public and Private Sectors to Promote Handwashing heads the International Health Agenda. Since its first celebration in 2008, which was designated the International Year of Sanitation on World Handwashing has strengthened the call for improved hygiene practices spread throughout the world.

We believe that the fact that most people wash their hands with soap significantly contribute to achieving the goal of the Millennium Development Goals of reducing by two thirds of deaths of children under five years old in 2015.

We support celebration of this day, which generally will be the centerpiece of a week of activities that will mobilize millions of people on five continents to wash their hands with soap. As a central activity for this day has proposed a simultaneous event of handwashing with soap and water between boys and girls in schools and public spaces in the Central American countries and the Dominican Republic, where we hope to set a Guinness World Record for the region.

In this context we encourage you to contact the national representation of the strategic partners that make up this alliance, in order to plan and organize with them, the activities necessary for the conclusion of the October 15 World Day for Handwashing and register to set the Guinness Record.
